Roden: Havezate Village in Noordenveld
Havezate Mensinge, a fortified manor house dating from the 14th century, stands at the edge of Roden and now serves as a museum and cultural centre. The estate grounds provide a green buffer between the village and the surrounding Drenthe countryside. About 7,030 residents live in Roden, seat of the gemeente Noordenveld, roughly 15 kilometres south of Groningen city.
The village centre along the Brink and Heerestraat has a modest selection of shops, restaurants, and a weekly market. Roden functions as a service centre for the surrounding rural area, with a hospital, secondary schools, and sports facilities. The Mensingebos and the Norg heathland lie within cycling distance.
Peize, a neighbouring village, and Norg to the south are also part of Noordenveld. The municipality covers a stretch of the Drenthe plateau with sandy soils, small woodlands, and prehistoric burial mounds (hunebedden) in the wider area.
