Oosterwolde: Service Town in Friesland's Stellingwerven
In the southeastern corner of Friesland, where the province borders Drenthe and Overijssel, Oosterwolde serves as the administrative centre of the gemeente Ooststellingwerf. About 9,245 people live here. Like nearby Wolvega, the Stellingwerven region has its own Low Saxon dialect rather than Frisian. The town functions as a regional service centre with shops, a hospital outpost, and secondary schools serving the surrounding villages.
The Drents-Friese Wold national park, one of the larger connected forest and heathland areas in the northern Netherlands, begins directly south of the town.
