Rheden: Posbank Views and Veluwe Edge
The Posbank viewpoint, one of the few elevated panoramas in the Netherlands, overlooks the IJssel valley from the Veluwe ridge just south of Rheden. On clear days the view stretches across the river floodplain to the Achterhoek beyond. The village of about 7,400 residents sits at the foot of this ridge, in the gemeente Rheden, where the forested Veluwe meets the IJssel lowland.
The Veluwezoom national park, covering the ridge and its wooded slopes, begins within walking distance of the village. Red deer, wild boar, and Scottish Highland cattle roam the park. The village centre is modest, with a church, a few shops, and residential streets descending toward the IJssel. Arnhem lies about 10 kilometres south, Dieren roughly 5 kilometres north along the rail line.
The Koningsweg and surrounding lanes were popular with 19th-century visitors who came for the Veluwe air, considered beneficial for lung conditions. Several former sanatoriums and hotels from that era dot the area, some converted to residential use.
