Reuver: Pottery Town on the Limburg Maas
Ceramics production put Reuver on the map. The Sphinx and Mosa factories once employed hundreds, producing tiles, sanitary ware, and household ceramics. Although large-scale production has relocated, smaller pottery workshops and the industrial heritage remain part of the town's identity. About 8,500 residents live here, within the gemeente Beesel, on the west bank of the Maas.
The river dominates the setting. Reuver's Maas quay was historically a loading point for barge transport. Today the riverbanks serve recreation: fishing, walking, and a small marina. The Rijkel forest and Swalm valley lie south, connecting to a cross-border walking network into Germany. Venlo is about 12 kilometres north, Roermond roughly 15 kilometres south.
