Mierlo: Kempen Village Absorbed into Geldrop
Since 2004, Mierlo has been part of the gemeente Geldrop-Mierlo, but the village has kept its own centre, its own carnival association, and its own identity. About 9,405 residents live here in the Kempen region of North Brabant, surrounded by a landscape of sandy soils, pine forest, and heathland that transitions into the Eindhoven urban zone to the west.
The Mierlose Heide to the south and the Sang en Goorkens nature area offer walking through heath and wetland. The centre around the Markt and the Sint-Luciakerk has a traditional Brabant character. Mierlo developed as an agricultural village but now functions largely as a residential community for the Eindhoven region. Eindhoven is about 8 kilometres west, Helmond roughly 8 kilometres east, and Geldrop directly adjacent to the northwest.
