Nuenen: Van Gogh's Brabant Village
Nuenen has about 23,220 inhabitants and lies in North Brabant east of Eindhoven. The village is inseparable from Vincent van Gogh, who lived and worked here from 1883 to 1885. During this period he painted The Potato Eaters and dozens of studies of weavers, peasants, and the Brabant landscape. Nuenen, Gerwen en Nederwetten is the full municipal name. The Collse Watermolen, a working watermill, and the Park district with its 1920s garden village layout are local landmarks. ASML, the Veldhoven-based lithography machine manufacturer, draws many Nuenen residents as employees.
