Oirschot: Protected Village Centre in the Brabant Kempen
Two churches face each other across the Markt in Oirschot: the 15th-century Gothic Sint-Petruskerk and the Boterkerk. This unusual dual-church layout is part of a protected village view (beschermd dorpsgezicht), one of few in North Brabant. About 10,393 residents live in this village between Eindhoven and Tilburg, regarded as having one of the finest village squares in Brabant.
Sandy Kempen landscape surrounds the village: heathland, forest, and the Oirschotse Heide and Kampina nature reserves. The Vleut stream runs through the area. Artists and creative businesses have settled here, drawn partly by the historic setting, with galleries and studios along the Heuvel and surrounding streets.
Agriculture and small manufacturing complement the creative economy. Eindhoven is about 12 kilometres east, Tilburg roughly 20 kilometres west.
