Founded as a parish community in the mid-19th century when the sandy heathland between Etten-Leur and Roosendaal was cultivated, Sint Willebrord is younger than most Dutch villages. The Catholic church and the settlement around it grew as farmers cleared the heath. About 8,655 people live here now, within the gemeente Rucphen.
The village has a linear layout along the Dorpsstraat, with newer housing estates branching off since the 1970s. Sandy woodland and remnant heath lie east, part of the Brabant heathland belt. Roosendaal, with its rail junction, is about 7 kilometres southeast. Breda is roughly 20 kilometres northeast. Local employment is limited; most working residents commute.
