Uden: Brabant Market Town with a Birgittine Monastery
Uden counts about 34,600 inhabitants and lies in the northeast of North Brabant between Oss and Veghel. The town grew as a regional market centre for the surrounding agricultural area. The Kruisherenkapel, a chapel converted into an event space, and the Museum voor Religieuze Kunst in a former monastery reflect the Catholic heritage of the Brabant region.
The Birgittinessenmonastery on the northern edge of town is one of the few active Birgittine communities remaining in the Netherlands. The Markt square hosts a weekly market. Uden merged into the gemeente Maashorst in 2022 together with Landerd.
Eindhoven is roughly 30 kilometres south. 's-Hertogenbosch lies about 25 kilometres northwest. The A50 motorway passes east of the town, connecting to Nijmegen and Eindhoven.
