Udenhout Between Tilburg and De Efteling
De Efteling theme park, one of the oldest and most visited amusement parks in the Netherlands, lies about 5 kilometres north of Udenhout. The village benefits from this proximity without being overwhelmed by it. About 7,650 residents live in Udenhout, within the gemeente Tilburg since 1997, on the edge of the Loonse en Drunense Duinen nature area.
The village retains an independent character despite its administrative absorption into Tilburg. The Sint-Lambertuskerk and the compact centre along the Slimstraat feel distinctly separate from the city. Woodland and the inland dune landscape begin at the northern edge. Dairy farming continues in the surrounding fields. Tilburg's centre is about 7 kilometres south.
Carnaval is celebrated with local enthusiasm under Udenhout's own carnival name. The village association and sports clubs maintain a social network separate from Tilburg's, reinforcing the sense of a community within a larger city.
