Veghel: Food Industry Cluster in Northeast Brabant
Veghel counts about 25,350 inhabitants and lies in the northeast of North Brabant. The town has become a food industry centre: Mars, Incorporated operates a large chocolate and pet food factory, and Jumbo supermarkets has its headquarters and main distribution centre here. The Zuid-Willemsvaart canal passes through the municipality, historically supporting transport of goods.
Veghel became part of the gemeente Meierijstad in 2017 following a merger with Sint-Oedenrode and Schijndel. The old centre around the Markt and the Sint-Lambertuskerk retains a compact Brabant village character. During Operation Market Garden in September 1944, the road through Veghel formed part of Hell's Highway, the supply corridor to Arnhem.
Eindhoven is about 25 kilometres south. 's-Hertogenbosch lies roughly 20 kilometres west. Uden is approximately 10 kilometres northeast.
