Julianadorp: Planned Settlement Near Den Helder with Beach Access
Julianadorp has about 15,135 residents and lies in North Holland within the gemeente Den Helder, just south of the naval city. The village was founded in 1909 as a planned agricultural settlement on reclaimed dune land, named after Queen Juliana. It has since grown into a residential community with a significant holiday park sector. The North Sea beach west of Julianadorp stretches for several kilometres and is less crowded than beaches further south.
Several holiday parks and camping sites around Julianadorp cater to seasonal tourism. The dune area between the village and the beach is protected nature. The Zwanenbalg residential district was developed in the 2000s. Agricultural land, particularly bulb fields in spring, surrounds the eastern and southern edges. The village has its own shops and schools, functioning somewhat independently from Den Helder despite being part of the same gemeente.
Den Helder is about 5 kilometres north. Alkmaar lies roughly 25 kilometres south. Texel is accessible by ferry from Den Helder.
