Groot-IJsselmonde is a district in Rotterdam-Zuid with about 28,120 residents, located on the IJsselmonde island between the Nieuwe Maas and Oude Maas rivers. The neighbourhood developed primarily in the post-war decades as social housing for the growing population of Rotterdam South. The Van Brienenoordbrug, one of Rotterdam's major bridges, provides the connection northward to the city centre.
The area has a mixed character: the older Oud-IJsselmonde neighbourhood retains traces of the former village including the Hervormde Kerk, while the surrounding post-war blocks have undergone partial renovation. The Zuiderpark and Spinozapark provide green space. The district borders Lombardijen to the west and Beverwaard to the east.
Rotterdam Centraal is about 8 kilometres north. The Erasmus MC and Feyenoord stadion are across the river. Metro lines connect the district to the rest of the city.
