Schiebroek: Residential District in North Rotterdam
Schiebroek has about 16,305 residents and forms a district within the gemeente Rotterdam in South Holland. The neighbourhood lies in the northern part of the city, between Hillegersberg and Overschie. Much of Schiebroek was built in the 1950s and 1960s as part of Rotterdam's post-war reconstruction and expansion, with characteristic rows of low-rise apartment blocks and single-family homes arranged around green courtyards.
The Schiebroeksepark provides local green space. The district has a quieter, suburban character compared to central Rotterdam. The A20 motorway runs along the northern edge, connecting to Den Haag and Gouda. Schiebroek's shopping strip along the Erasmussingel serves daily needs. The neighbourhood has undergone renovation programmes to upgrade the post-war housing stock and improve public spaces.
Rotterdam's centre is about 5 kilometres south. Hillegersberg is directly adjacent to the east. The Randstadrail station at Meijersplein provides a metro connection to the city centre.
