Woudenberg: Heuvelrug Village Between Amersfoort and Veenendaal
At the transition from the wooded Utrechtse Heuvelrug to the flat Gelderse Vallei, Woudenberg occupies an unusual geographical seam. The forested ridge rises to the west; open agricultural land stretches east. About 11,305 residents live here in the province of Utrecht, where the Reformed Protestant community has a strong presence.
The Pyramide van Austerlitz, a large earthen pyramid built by Napoleonic soldiers in 1804, stands in the forest between Woudenberg and Zeist. Poultry and egg production in the Gelderse Vallei has historically been important. Residential growth has attracted families from Amersfoort (about 10 kilometres west) and Utrecht.
